AIR LINES newsletter reported on page 2 of the October
22, 1999 letter that a
"Delta Air Lines jet bound for Atlanta from Rhode Island
made an emergency landing in Boston, Wednesday night, after
debris from a blown tire apparently caused problems with one
of its engines. Passengers and witnesses said they heard
loud bangs and saw flames coming from an engine on the MD-80
just after it took off from T.F. Green Airport in Warwick
RI. Reports quoted some passengers as saying smoke in the
cabin caused many of those on board Flight 2049 to panic. At
least two had to be treated at a hospital for anxiety
attacks."
